Manitoba Public Insurance has opened two dedicated centres to deal with the flurry of damaged vehicles after last weekend’s hailstorm.
More than 1,500 claims have been received so far as a result of the June 9-10 storm, according to the public auto insurer.
“In order to respond to the extraordinary number of new claims, it was decided to establish this special centre,” said Christine Martin, MPI’s vice-president of service operations. “We realize many people are concerned about their vehicles. Providing the best service possible to our customers has always been the number one priority of our Corporation.”
Winnipeg motorists will be able to visit MPI’s Bison Service Centre, located at 15 Barnes Street, to get their hail-damaged vehicles assessed. The centre will be able to see 300 customers daily and be dedicated to hail claims only. The centre will operate Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
A second hail claim centre in Selkirk will operate Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Affected vehicle owners can call (204) 985-7000 to schedule an appointment.
MPI also opened a dedicated claim centre in July 1996 and August 2007 to deal with hail-related claims.
