Actor Rob Lowe ruffled some Twitter feathers late Tuesday after a tweet sent out appeared to call Winnipeg a “hellhole.”

While watching the NBA Finals Tuesday night, Lowe expressed frustration over the broadcast being interrupted to show city council election results.

The “Parks and Recreation” star is in Winnipeg filming “Imperfect Justice,” examining the Casey Anthony story.

The “local affiliate” described by Lowe isn’t a Winnipeg feed, but rather a WDAZ signal from Grand Forks, North Dakota, an ABC affiliate station owned by Forum Communications, which also operates WDAY in Fargo.

A production source told ChrisD.ca Wednesday morning that Lowe was simply referring to missing the game. “He loves Winnipeg,” the source said.

Here’s how Twitter reacted:

It’s not the first time the actor has found himself in hot water from a tweet. In January, Lowe incorrectly tweeted that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was retiring.

By the way, Grand Forks Mayor Mike Brown won his fourth term with 69% of the vote.

UPDATE: WDAZ news director Chris Regimbal responded to the controversy.
