Shop Your Heart Out on Canada Day

June 27, 2012 8:15 AM | News

Retail shoppers who want to spend as much time (and money) in the malls this weekend will be happy to know that July 1 will be business as usual.

With Canada Day falling on a Sunday this year, the federally-regulated holiday will be observed on Monday, July 2.

This is great news for retailers in the city, including Kildonan Place Shopping Centre.

“This is definitely confusing for customers and retailers alike,” said KP general manager Peter Havens. “We want to make sure that everyone knows that we’re open our regular hours from noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday, with our maple leaf flag flying proudly in front of the mall.”

Shoppers Drug Mart at Kildonan Place will be open their regular hours on Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., as will other pharmacies.

Local malls will follow suit with their hours, with Polo Park and St. Vital also operating from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Grant Park and Portage Place will close at 5 p.m.

To celebrate Canada’s 145th birthday, the mall is encouraging visitors to wear a maple leaf. Those who dress patriotically can visit Guest Services and be entered to win a $145 mall gift card. The draw will be made on July 3.
