Manitoba Public Insurance has started the process to develop two parcels of land it currently owns in downtown Winnipeg.

Winnipeg-based firm Artis/Longboat Group has been awarded a one-year exclusive option to prepare firm development plans for 225 Carlton Street (70,348 sq. feet) and 172 Donald Street (36,420 sq. feet). The two properties are currently used as surface parking lots.

“It is the intention of Manitoba Public Insurance to retain ownership of the properties for the long-term financial benefit of Manitoba motorists,” said Marilyn McLaren, MPI’s president and CEO.

Further announcements on the development will be made in due course, the public insurer said.
