Manitoba is the Slurpee Capital of the World for the 13th consecutive year.

7-Eleven announced Thursday that the province is still ahead of its close challengers, Calgary and Detroit.

“It’s always a close battle but ultimately it’s a friendly one in North America,” said Tim Donegan, vice president of 7-Eleven Canada. “That said, we want to keep first place in Canada.”

Donegan said Slurpee-loving Manitobans have helped the province have the highest average number of Slurpees sold per store in a region.

The convenience store will again be offering free Slurpees on Wednesday, July 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in 7.11 ounce cups.

A new 7-Eleven will open near the Winnipeg airport by the fall.
