The University of Manitoba Bisons football team has added five local players to their roster for the upcoming 2012 season.

The Manitoba-born recruits come from the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL), and include receiver Danny Turek (Maples Collegiate), linebacker DJ Lalama and Matt Kochan (both from St. Paul’s High School), slotback Tommy Howes (Churchill High School), and defensive lineman Tavian Thomas (Garden City Collegiate).

“All five are products of the WHSFL and the coaches have done a great job in development of local talents as they have found different paths to get back to the University of Manitoba campus,” said Bisons head coach Brian Dobie. “Kochan has come directly from high school while the others have gained experience at the junior football level and we are happy they have all made the decision to become Bisons.”

The Bisons begin their season on the road September 1 against UBC before returning home to host Saskatchewan September 8 at University Stadium.
