The third annual Red River Cup football tournament is underway at the University of Manitoba.

Today through July 13, the top under-16 players in Manitoba will compete in the high-level regional competition.

Four teams will participate in this year’s event, with defending champion Team Winnipeg East along with Team Westman, Team Saskatchewan and Team Winnipeg West. Players will be competing for the spotlight in front of college and junior scouts.

There will be two games each day with the Gold Medal final at 7 p.m. on the 13th. All games will consist of four 12-minute quarters and therefore there must be 48 hours rest between each game.

Game 1 begins at 4 p.m. this afternoon, with Game 2 following at 7 p.m.

Games are held at the east practice field near the U of M Soccer Complex on Chancellor Matheson Road.
