A farm in Carberry, Manitoba has been fined after a workplace accident that saw a teen get pulled under a brace on a conveyor belt.

The Manitoba Government said the male, 15, was working at ShellMark Farms in Carberry when he tried to straddle a conveyor belt. Instead, he fell, and was pulled under a metal brace for the conveyor’s electric motor. He was left with numerous broken bones and internal injuries.

The accident, which happened on September 18, 2010, netted the company a $48,050 fine after they pled guilty for not providing a safe system for workers to access the belt.
