A local French weekly newspaper has won the honour of being named newspaper of the year.
La Liberté received the award July 6 at the 29th Gala Award of Excellence ceremony held by the Association de la presse francophone (APF) in Prince Edward Island.
“This recognition is very special in light of the fact that we are gearing up to celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2013,” said editor-in-chief and executive officer Sophie Gaulin in a statement. “It confirms that we are still as relevant today as we were in 1913. This thumbs up gives us a boost to celebrate our centennial with colour and style.”
The event recognized the successes of French newspapers serving minority communities throughout Canada, with La Liberté’s focus being on St. Boniface.
