A young Winnipeg man wanted in connection with several arsons has been arrested.
Winnipeg police said they arrested a suspect Sunday after a garage was set on fire in the 200 block of Chalmers Avenue at about 7:30 a.m. The fire was extinguished, and a man matching the description of the person who set the fire was seen at the scene.
Police said the man is also a suspect in fires on Young Street, Langside Street, two fires on Johnson Avenue, William Newton Avenue, and Talbot Avenue, dating back to April of 2011. The fires caused a total of $58,700 damage.
Darren Bittern, 18, has been charged with numerous counts of arson and mischief. He has been detained.
