Several of the city’s neighbourhoods are being beautified by teams of students tasked with cleaning corners of Winnipeg over the summer.

The Green Wave program is put on by Take Pride Winnipeg!, which employs youth aged 16- to 19-years-old. Teams may be involved in activities such as litter pickup, graffiti removal, planter maintenance and park restoration.

East Kildonan Centennial Park will have its pool building and park benches repainted this year. The Green Wave staff will also check the flower beds for weeds and conduct a litter cleanup of the park. Area daycare children have been invited to add their handprints to the pool building walls.

“This is the second wading pool we have painted this season,” said executive director Tom Ethans. “It is great to see the revamped energy in a park once our Green Wave have come in to spruce the area up.”
