A new splash pad will be added to the St. James-Assiniboia Centennial Pool complex in the coming months.
The city and province jointly announced the $500,000 addition on Wednesday, giving children the opportunity to cool off during hot summer days. The project is being cost-shared equally by both levels of government.
“This new splash pad will be a wonderful addition to the existing recreational complex, which is already a popular destination for the Crestview-Westwood community,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “The splash pad will provide families with another safe, fun, recreational option in support of active, healthy lifestyles.”
The splash pad at 644 Parkdale Street will include 14 above-ground spray features, five ground spray features, picnic tables, benches, pathways and landscaping.
The city is also spending $250,000 to expand the adjoining parking lot and investing an additional $1.1 million in the St. James-Assiniboia Centennial Pool complex for a variety of new amenities. Renovations are expected to be complete by this fall.
