Voters will head to the polls in the Manitoba constituency of Fort Whyte on September 4.

Premier Greg Selinger called the byelection Friday, after the seat was vacated when former Conservative Party leader Hugh McFadyen resigned on July 30. New PC leader Brian Pallister is expected to run in the riding.

On voting day, polls will remain open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Nominations in the constituency will officially close on August 20 and advance polls will be open from August 25 to September 1.

On Thursday, the NDP nominated Brandy Schmidt in the riding.

There are currently 37 New Democrats, 18 Progressive Conservatives, one Liberal and one vacant seat in the Manitoba legislature.
