Former Blue Bombers Coach Bud Riley Dies

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are mourning the loss of former head coach Bud Riley.

Riley passed away on Saturday. He was 86.

“The Riley family has great ties to our organization and Mr. Bud Riley was a big part of our franchise and our great league throughout his career. Our condolences go out to the Riley family at this time,” Blue Bomber president and CEO Garth Buchko said in a statement on Monday.

Riley was the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1974-1977. He began his career in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders as their defensive coordinator, and after just one season, took the head reins of the Blue Bombers. Father of former Blue Bomber head coach Mike Riley, he was inducted into the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.
