Three Winnipeggers stepped up onto the podium Tuesday after being named Winnipeg’s fastest cyclists.

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ event was to promote Ciclovia, an upcoming cycling and active transportation festival on September 9.

Downtown office workers, students, athletes, and Olympic wannabees hopped on stationary bikes in front of Elite Physiotherapy Clinic on Graham Avenue to pedal their way to victory. Participants were timed for best speed and distance travelled.

The winners were Taren Gesell, Trevor Finch and Heather Allan, who all won Olympic prize packages and donned the winner’s podium.

“Cycling, healthy living, and active transportation are essential in any vibrant downtown,” said Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ. “We encourage Winnipeg cyclists to attend our annual Ciclovia event and to take advantage of our bike tune-up stations or participate in bike polo or the bike rodeo.”
