A new primetime local newscast will debut tonight on Global Winnipeg and in neighbouring markets.
“News Hour Final” will be anchored by Heather Steele and combine the half-hour “Prime News” and “Evening News” programs into one all-encompassing source for local and regional news.
“The launch of Global Winnipeg’s News Hour Final is part of a similar evening news expansion being undertaken by Global News at Global Regina and Global Saskatoon,” said Global News publicist Nick Poirier in an e-mail. “This move will make Global Winnipeg’s News Hour Final the only primetime local news in the Winnipeg market.”
The newscast will air weekdays at 10 p.m. CT before competitor CBC’s abbreviated newscast at 10:55 p.m. and CTV Winnipeg’s 11:30 p.m. newscast.
Global first announced its plans to expand local news during the May 2012 upfronts to advertisers.
