Two people are dead following a plane crash near Manitou Wednesday evening.
RCMP say the crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. about 1.6 km north of the community when the pilot turned around just after takeoff. The Red Acro II aircraft lost control and crashed in a lagoon just north of the Manitou airport. Investigators are trying to determine why the plane turned around.
The pilot, a 64-year-old man from Winnipeg and the only passenger, a 48-year-old man also from Winnipeg, perished in the plane crash.
Civilians who witnessed the crash tried to help until paramedics arrived, but weren’t successful.
The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
Manitou is about 170 km southwest of Winnipeg.
