Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 1

An 80-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon after her vehicle was struck by another car west of Winnipeg.

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Highway 1 and Yellowquill Trail in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

RCMP say the woman was attempting to cross the highway travelling northbound when she was struck by a vehicle being driven by a 35-year-old Winnipeg woman. The intersection is controlled by a stop sign.

The 80-year-old, a resident of Portage la Prairie, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As of 7:45 p.m., one westbound lane on Highway 1 remained closed as officers investigated the crash.

The name of the deceased is not being released.
