Lower Fort Garry Historical Site (WIKIPEDIA)

The rich agricultural history of Lower Fort Garry will be on display today and Sunday as part of the site’s Harvest Celebration.

Activities include harvest-themed historical tours, grain-grinding and root cellar workshops, a “berry social” today and a Corn Roast on Sunday.

Since around 1840, Lower Fort Garry supported the fur trade and its transport network by supplying foodstuffs and other commodities, raising and training oxen, and building boats.

Planned events run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular admission fees apply.

The site is located about 15 minutes north of Winnipeg on Highway 9 (Main Street).
