This year’s lineup for the Manitoba Lotteries Barge Festival was unveiled Monday at The Forks.

Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the Selkirk Settlers, this year’s festival has a distinct feeling of tartan and multiculturalism about it.

The event, which kicks off on Friday, August 31, features The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra with John McDermott, Celtica, The Barra MacNeils, Ca Claque, the Aboriginal School of Dance, a York boat procession, Scottish heavy games and a parade of Selkirk Settlers.

“We are thrilled to bring back this fabulous event for Winnipeggers to enjoy especially with a theme that celebrates The Forks as a meeting place for many diverse people,” said Jim August, CEO of The Forks North Portage Partnership. “The Forks has played such an integral role in the history of this city and this year’s festival pays tribute to one important chapter of the 6,000 years of this special place.”

The festival will run until Sunday, September 2 at The Forks’ Historic Port. Admission is free.
