Assiniboine Park’s ‘Movies in the Park’ (HANDOUT)
Movies in the Park was a smash hit again with attendees this year, attracting roughly 42,000 people to Assiniboine Park during its four-night run.
The second annual event screened Hollywood blockbusters on a 27-foot-wide LED screen at the Lyric Stage. Movies were shown four Fridays in August.
“We were thrilled to see the crowds we had last year so to see it grow even bigger in 2012 is incredible,” said Kevin Hunter, director of marketing and communications for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “When you’re sitting on the grass surrounded by that many people, with so many families having such a good time it just puts a huge smile on your face.”
Organizers say plans are already underway for the 2013 season and the public can vote on which movies they would like to see on the park’s Facebook page.
