Bisons Defeat Thunderbirds in Season Opener

September 2, 2012 9:38 AM | Sports

The University of Manitoba Bisons football team defeated the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday in Vancouver.

The unranked Bisons upset the No. 7-ranked Thunderbirds 31-24 in their first game of the 2012 regular season.

Manitoba running back Nic Demski clinched the win for the Bisons on a six-yard touchdown run at 10:25 of the fourth quarter. A two-point convert made the score 31-17.

“We played well. All three units had a good game and Cam Clark did a lot of good things in his first start at quarterback,” Bisons head coach Brian Dobie said following the game. “Our running backs were great as Kienan (LaFrance) and (Nic) Demski kept making plays and gaining yards. We are a little beat up but happy of the result and a great start to the season.”

Manitoba (1-0) hosts its home opener on Saturday, September 8 against the No. 8-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies (1-0) at University Stadium (1 p.m. CT).
