RCMP in Steinbach shot and killed a black bear on Wednesday morning after it became lost in the city.
The adult bear was spotted at about 8:30 a.m. in front of the Shoppers Drug Mart in downtown Steinbach.
Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship was called, but couldn’t immediately attend the scene. RCMP continued to follow the bear throughout the city, where it ended up in a residential area near a school.
Due to the large number of children in the area returning to classes for their first day, the bear was destroyed as a safety precaution.
