Sod Turned on U of W’s Health and RecPlex

Ground was officially be broken Thursday on the University of Winnipeg’s UNITED Health and RecPlex.

Located on the current outdoor soccer pitch between Spence and Young Streets, the state-of-the-art, indoor green space will accommodate a multitude of sports such as soccer, flag football and track and field, as well as cultural and community events.

The facility will include a four-lane rubberized sprint track, a practice gym, retractable batting cages, a multi-events room, a dance/yoga studio, food and beverage kiosks, and an underground parkade that can accommodate 200 vehicles.

The province is contributing $15 million to the project, while the city is providing $2 million.

Construction is expected to be complete by the spring of 2014.
