Nominations are open to recognize Winnipeg’s top police officer.
The first annual Top Cop award will be given out by the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg Inc. on November 9 during a gala dinner at the Fairmont Winnipeg.
“We all know that police officers work hard to protect the public and maintain safety,” said Mike Sutherland, president of the Winnipeg Police Association. “That sense of commitment and caring compels many to give extra time to volunteer in their neighbourhoods and communities to make them even better. I am extremely proud of my members for all the positive things they do both on and off duty.”
Off-duty officers who go above and beyond in the community or serve as a volunteer can be nominated until September 14. The finalists will be selected by a committee made up of local law enforcement representatives, and local business and community leaders.
The evening event will feature a video on each of the three Top Cop finalists and their stories, special award presentation to the 2012 Top Cop, live auction and dancing. Tickets are available online.
