The Winnipeg Goldeyes are on their way to play for the 2012 American Association Championship.
Friday night at Shaw Park, the Fish eliminated the rival Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-1, giving Winnipeg a 3-0 series sweep in the best-of-five American Association Divisional Series.
On a chilly evening in downtown Winnipeg, 5,025 dedicated fans filled the stands to see starter Matthew Rusch allow a run in the first inning that struck out five and walked one for the win. Jack Van Leur, Chris Allen, Zach Baldwin and Brian Beuning combined for two shutout innings of relief, while Beuning pitched the ninth for his third straight save of the series.
Winnipeg moves on to face the Wichita Wingnuts Tuesday night at Shaw Park at 7 p.m. Game 2 will be played in Winnipeg at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Tickets for both games are available at the Goldeyes box office or through Ticketmaster.
