The St. Norbert Farmers’ Market has secured funding for the first phase of site improvements in south Winnipeg.

Through a collaboration of grants from the province, city, the Winnipeg Foundation, and community partners, $250,000 was obtained to address groundwater drainage issues at the market.

“Water issues have dogged the site for years, forcing vendors and visitors to wade through large puddles on rainy market days. That issue will be managed early next spring, when improvements to site drainage will take place, clearing the way for further development,” said market spokesperson Marilyn Firth.

A recent audit found a single Saturday brought in 10,000 visitors to the market.
