A semi-trailer truck that hit the Portage la Prairie overpass forced the closure of the Trans-Canada Highway for several hours on Wednesday.
RCMP say the single-vehicle crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. when the truck was travelling westbound on the highway between Angle Road and Alexander Avenue.
The truck collided with the guard rail on the north side of the overpass, as well as with a concrete barrier between the east and westbound lanes. The overpass sustained damage and large pieces of debris were strewn across the highway.
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation attended to inspect the structure.
The female driver from Labelle, Quebec has been charged with imprudent driving. No one was injured.
As of 8:30 a.m., both the east and westbound lanes of the highway were closed. Traffic was being rerouted through Portage la Prairie.
