Visitors to Winnipeg will have another option for accommodation near the James Richardson International Airport by 2014.

The province’s first Courtyard by Marriott hotel was announced Friday, which will be located just a short walk from the main airport terminal.

The six-storey, 120-room hotel will be built on the eastern side of the airport by Brock Hotels and Belmont Equity Partners Inc.

“We are excited to expand in the robust Manitoba market,” said Manlio P. Marescotti, vice-president of lodging development for Marriott Hotels and Resorts. “The Courtyard brand fits perfectly with the demographics of the region and offers guest amenities specially suited for both business and leisure stays.”

Construction on the $20-million project is expected to begin in 2013, with an opening slated for the spring of 2014.
