A new red panda cub was born at the Assiniboine Park Zoo on June 30, making it the third to be housed at the zoo.

Staff have tasked the public with naming the cute female cub, who will join Rufus and Rouge.

Names can be voted on through the zoo’s Facebook page or inside the Toucan Ridge exhibit at the zoo between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, which will be International Red Panda Day.

The potential names for the cub are Zhin, meaning treasure; Kiah, meaning from the beautiful place; Anika meaning graceful or beautiful and Mya which means emerald. The Facebook poll will stay open until 9 p.m. on Monday, September 17, following which the new names will be announced to the public.
