Blood Type Test Poking Fingers on U of M Campus

September 18, 2012 8:40 AM | News

Canadian Blood Services will be on the University of Manitoba campus today as part of Operation Finger Poke 1,000.

The agency is aiming to blood type as many as 1,000 students, faculty, staff and members of the public as an interactive way to raise awareness about the constant need for blood.

Blood collected with a single small poke is then mixed with serum to determine the individual’s blood group (A, B, O or AB) and Rh factor (positive or negative). The test is free and takes about two minutes to complete.

The challenge will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various locations on the U of M’s Fort Garry campus.
