A 52-year-old man is dead after the boat he was operating stalled on Fishing Lake on Friday afternoon amid poor weather conditions.
Two men were in the motor boat between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. when the engine stopped. Both had fallen out of the watercraft and were reported to be in distress at around 8:30 p.m.
RCMP say there were high winds, large waves and reduced visibility at the time. A 19-year-old man in the boat was able to eventually restart the engine and go for help.
A search for the 52-year-old’s body began and at about 10 a.m. this morning, local searchers located it. The deceased has been identified as a Pauingassi First Nation man, but his name won’t be released. The survivor, also from Pauingassi First Nation, was treated for exposure at the local nursing station.
Neither of the men were wearing lifejackets, according to police.
