The first ever Run for a Hunger-Free Manitoba half marathon is set for this morning in St. Vital Park.

At 8 a.m., runners will lace up at the Duck Pond shelter and get active in support of Winnipeg Harvest. Proceeds from the Fort Garry Rotary Club’s run are going towards the local food bank to assist city families in need.

Two of the participates running are a mother-daughter team from St. Norbert who have been training the last few months. Kathryn Cano’s goal is to finish the half marathon with her 18-year-old daughter and help support Harvest by doing so.

Prizes and category medals in the 15 km marathon will be handed out at 11 a.m.
