Today marks the beginning of Fire Prevention Week across Canada, where local fire and paramedic services will work to educate their respected communities.
Running from October 7-13, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is promoting fire safety and prevention with this year’s theme of “Plan 2 Ways Out” by teaching families how best to react in the event of a fire.
Activities for the week ahead include:
Tuesday, October 9 to Friday October 12
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service will team up with Home Depot to promote “How to Plan 2 Ways Out” by setting up public information booths at Home Depot locations across Winnipeg.Friday, October 12
All City of Winnipeg Schools will be asked to participate in a city-wide fire drill at 1:00 p.m. Fire Paramedic crews will be on site at local schools to observe and participate in the drills.A fun basketball game between a crew from Fire Paramedic Station 5 and Principal Sparling School at 1150 Sherburn Street will take place at 11:00 a.m.
Saturday, October 13
All Fire Paramedic Stations will participate in an open house from noon to 4:00 p.m. As in previous years, we are partnering with McDonald’s Restaurants which will sponsor the Honourary Fire Chief for a day contest and supply refreshments.“Plan 2 Ways Out” packages will be distributed to all kindergarten to grade three classes in Winnipeg during Fire Prevention Week. Ballots to win one of four Nintendo DS systems are included in the package and children are encouraged to fill them out and bring them to any Fire Paramedic Station open house on October 13.
