A 53-year-old man has died following a multi-vehicle crash on Portage Avenue Monday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 12:10 p.m. between a Chevrolet TrailBlazer and a Chevrolet Lumina sedan. Winnipeg police say the Lumina was travelling westbound on Portage when it lost control near Young Street and spun into eastbound oncoming traffic. The Lumina was struck on the driver’s side door by the eastbound TrailBlazer. A Ford Contour travelling east was also involved in the crash.

Police blocked all eastbound traffic at Furby Street while they investigated.

The 53-year-old man driving the Lumina was taken to hospital in critical condition where he later died. The driver of the TrailBlazer was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The central traffic unit is continuing to investigate.
