Empty Bowl Auction Raises $314K for Winnipeg Harvest

By Tyler Sutherland

Winnipeg Harvest’s Empty Bowls Celebrity Auction raised $314,600 for the local food bank on Tuesday.

During a gala dinner at the Delta Winnipeg, donors raised a record amount of money for the celebrity-endorsed decorated bowls.

Hollywood actress Meryl Streep had her bowl auctioned for $1,700.

The evening featured a simple meal of fine soups and breads, as well as silent and live auctions of the celebrity and local artisan bowls and once-in-a-lifetime experience packages.

The next event is Harvest’s Empty Bowls Soup-er Lunch on November 8 at MTS Centre. Assorted soups and breads will be served, as local media personalities, celebrities and students mingle with guests. Tickets are $10 at Ticketmaster.
