Metis culture will be celebrated Friday at the University of Winnipeg.

The university has partnered with the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) and the Louis Riel Institute for the celebrations, which coincide with the 2012 autumn convocation. MMF president David Chartrand will be honoured for his 22 years of leadership and governance within the Metis nation.

MMF counsel Jason Madden will give a public lecture at 12:30 p.m. in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall titled, “Recognizing Metis Rights: The Time Has Come.”

All-day cultural and educational displays will be available in the Riddell atrium, including a Red River cart, sash weaving, dress-up/photo booth, scholarship information, and more.
