A performance artists will read adult bedtime stories at the Winnipeg Art Gallery next month.
Shawna Dempsey is the author of “Bedtime Stories for the Edge of the World” with Lorri Millan. The pair wrote the book as part of the WAG exhibition Winnipeg Now, which features the work of 13 of Winnipeg’s most creative artists.
“The stories were inspired by mythic notions of the North American ‘frontier’—yarns and fables belonging to cowboys and Horatio Algers,” Dempsey said. “But our interest was in the women of the ‘New World.’ So our tales follow pirate queens, inventrixes, sideshow performers, plucky spinsters, religious zealots, and office workers.”
The readings are set for November 2, 16, and December 7 at 8:30 p.m. General museum admission applies.
