One Winnipeg councillor is helping out her constituents obtain yard waste disposal bags amidst a shortage of the product at local retailers.

Charleswood-Tuxedo councillor Paula Havixbeck is distributing the paper leaf bags on a first-come, first-serve basis.

In a statement on Monday, Havixbeck’s office said BFI Canada donated six pallets of the bags to the councillor.

“Change is difficult, and this scenario is no exception,” Havixbeck said. “The city is adapting to a new arrangement, and that does warrant time. Hopefully folks can find it in their hearts to be patient as the new system is implemented.”

Anyone wanting bags can attend the Tuxedo Community Centre, 368 Southport Boulevard, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week from 5-8 p.m.
