Cineplex VIP Cinema on McGillivray Opening Friday

The finishing touches are being put on the newly-renamed Cineplex Odeon McGillivray and VIP Cinemas in south Winnipeg.

Formerly Cinema City, Cineplex Entertainment has been hard at work transforming the theatre with a $4.5-million renovation.

The cutting-edge movie theatre will open Friday, November 2 on McGillivray Boulevard and include eight traditional auditoriums, three VIP Cinema auditoriums, and a licenced lounge.

Making it the first VIP cinema in Manitoba, the theatre has been outfitted with the latest cinema technology, including larger screens, Dolby digital surround sound, Christie Solaria Series DLP Cinema projectors and RealD 3D technology.

“We’ve created an entirely new entertainment destination that is truly first-of-its-kind in the province of Manitoba,” said Pat Marshall of Cineplex Entertainment. “If our experience elsewhere in Canada is any guide, moviegoers are going to love this level of entertainment.”

Marshall said the VIP experience — which will run you an additional $7 on top of the regular ticket price — usually sells out in advance for particular screenings also shown in other theatres.

The first movies to screen in the VIP cinemas (18+) will be “Argo,” “Flight,” and “Seven Psychopaths.” Seat reservations are already being accepted on Cineplex’s website.

Guests can look forward to a wide range of new concession options as well, such as burgers, hot dogs, and fries. Concessions in the VIP cinema will include specialized offerings, including flatbread pizza, calamari and alcohol. A TCBY frozen yogurt, Pizza Pizza and Outtakes are also part of the addition.

The box office, located at 2190 McGillivray Boulevard, will open Friday at 3 p.m., with the first shows starting at around 3:30 p.m.
