Manitoba’s Tories don’t believe a Crown corporation should have a hand in repairing the province’s crumbling infrastructure.

Progressive Conservative Party leader Brian Pallister said on Thursday that Manitoba Public Insurance should focus on what it does best: providing auto insurance to drivers.

“MPI is there to provide low-cost auto insurance to Manitobans. Manitoba Hydro is there to provide low-cost electricity to Manitobans. These mandates are being blocked by political interference from the NDP,” Pallister said.

MPI recently expressed interest in using its revenue to help the province fix badly decaying roads, and in turn, help its bottom line by saving on the number of claims it pays out.

The Tories say the governing NDP attempted to have MPI fund infrastructure at Universities in 2000.
