A new website was launched Friday to help reduce the number of serious injuries involved with falling.

PreventFalls.ca is aimed at seniors and children, the two groups the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says are at the highest risk.

“Many people are surprised to learn that each year in Winnipeg about 1,649 people 65 years of age and older are hospitalized and 87 people die each year due to a fall. Falls are also the leading cause of injury hospitalization in Winnipeg children,” said Dr. Lynne Warda, a medical consultant in injury prevention.

The website includes information about what puts people at risk and gives information about what they can do to stay on their feet.

The Manitoba government has proclaimed November 5 to 11 Falls Prevention Week.
