Construction started on a new regional library in Selkirk on Friday.
The Gaynor Family Regional Library will include 22,000-square-feet of space, which will be more than triple the size of the existing library. It will service the city of Selkirk, the RM of St. Clements as well as the RM of St. Andrews.
The first phase of construction involves 17,000 square feet of library space and a multi-purpose area.
The Manitoba government is providing $1.6-million towards the $5.6-million project, as well as approximately two acres of land. The rest of the funding is being covered by the the City of Selkirk and neighbouring rural municipalities, and a large private donation.
