Don Amero (HANDOUT)
After a seven-year drought and 17 nominations, Winnipeg’s Don Amero finally won at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards on Friday night.
Amero walked away with the male entertainer of the year award at the 7th annual awards show at MTS Centre.
“It feels great to finally get one, I’ve had a spot waiting for it on my shelf for a long time now,” Amero said shortly after.
The independent musician with a growing following of fans was nominated for three awards this year.
“The APCMAs do a lot to promote Aboriginal music and it’s nice to come together for this celebration. We owe a lot to all the organizers, and everyone who supports the music scene.”
Amero most recently released his fourth album, Heart On My Sleeve, during an online concert in conjunction with APTN.
