Icy road conditions are believed to have contributed to several serious crashes on Monday morning.

A semi-trailer truck flipped and spilled its load on the South Perimeter Highway near St. Mary’s Road shortly after 7 a.m. One person was sent to hospital.

A vehicle towing a camper then rolled about half an hour later on the South Perimeter at Lagimodiere Boulevard. One person was also taken to hospital in that crash as a precaution.

Then shortly before 10 a.m., an eight-vehicle crash on the Red River Bridge closed westbound lanes on the South Perimeter. Police cleared the scene about an hour later. There were no reported injuries.

Provincial crews have been sanding the Perimeter Highway since early Saturday when snow began to fall. Winnipeg received about 27 centimetres in total.
