Jazz Winnipeg is presenting its seventh season of the popular Nu Sounds series beginning January 25, 2013.

Taking place at the Park Theatre and running through May, the series will open with the Latin and blues sounds of Rambling Dan Frechette and Trio Bembe.

The series continues on March 17 when Keith Price assembles two jazz quartets to perform a new score to the classic Spaghetti Western The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

On April 13, Manitoba artists Cain-Fournier-Gatien-Platz take the stage. All part of the faculty at the Brandon University School of Music, Michael Cain (piano/keyboards/electronics), Gilles Fournier (bass), Greg Gatien (saxophone), and Eric Platz (drums/percussion) blend exploration of new compositions with re-imaginations of jazz standards.

Iceland’s Bjorn Thoroddsen, featuring Greg Lowe, Tim Butler, Larry Roy, Chet Breau, and Ariel Posen, will perform on May 11.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, November 21 at JazzWinnipeg.com, at the Jazz Winnipeg office, Park Theatre, or by phone at (204) 989-4656.

Nu Sounds season tickets are $40. Individual tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
