Black Friday is November 23 and is the largest shopping day of the year in the United States.
In recent years, some Canadian retailers have taken notice and tried to compete with the drastic discounts to keep spending north of the border. And now the city of Selkirk is joining in on the frenzy.
The Selkirk and District Chamber of Commerce has declared November 23-25 “Black Friday Weekend.” Participating merchants will offer shoppers savings in hopes of keeping them not only north of the U.S. border, but north of the Perimeter Highway as well.
“The key to success with this community event is participation and we’re thrilled to have received such a positive response from our (Chamber) membership,” said Cyndi Typliski, Black Friday committee chair. “Our hope is to see the same enthusiasm and participation from the shoppers in our communities throughout the weekend.”
Participating merchants are listed at ItsAllRightHere.com.
Locally, Polo Park and Kildonan Place Shopping Centre are planning their own Black Friday promotions.
