The City of Winnipeg is increasing water and sewer rates by 4.3% to offset the cost of $1.2 billion in provincially-mandated upgrades to its sewage treatment facilities, as well as inflation.
The three-year increase will occur from 2013 to 2015, with the average homeowner paying about $3 more per month. A 2013 rate report on the increase recommends less than the 6% (2013), 6% (2014) and 6.5% (2015) projected last year.
Committee and council approval is still needed for the increase.
