Alexander Mickelthwate (WSO)
The music director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra will deliver a free public lecture at the University of Manitoba today.
“In my talk about ‘The Art of Harmony: how the maestro shapes his orchestra’ I will dive with full power into the strange and beautiful job of a symphonic conductor, trying to answer my own questions (and probably yours) about nothing smaller than the mystical powers of sounds,” said Maestro Alexander Mickelthwate.
Mickelthwate is in his sixth season as music director of the WSO, where he has significantly raised the ensemble’s profile through innovative programming and active community engagement.
His lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of University College on the U of M’s Fort Garry campus.
