The Manitoba government is partnering with the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation to provide mentorship and internship opportunities to children from high-needs communities through practical work experience.

The new After School Leaders program will work with organizations and businesses to give youth work experience and the chance to develop positive professional relationships with experts working in a number of fields including arts, communications and sports.

“Keeping youth out of crime and on a positive path is about creating opportunities and After School Leaders is an exciting new program that will give more young people a chance to succeed,” Premier Greg Selinger said during an announcement at the MTS Iceplex. “By partnering with organizations in the community, we’re providing valuable after-school training and work experience that is structured, supervised and focused on building young people’s skills.”

Proposals for the program will begin being accepted on November 30 until January 2, 2013 at merx.com by searching “after school leaders.”
